Challenge #28 - Chipboard Piecing

I love chipboard.

It has become such a staple for my scrapbooking that

I truly cannot remember life before chipboard. Really.
I cannot even recall my pre-chip scrap life.

However, I have now accumulated a bit too much
and I'm always looking for new things to do with it

to use it up (so I can buy more, of course!).

One of my favorite new things to do with chipboard

is a technique that I like to call "Chipboard Piecing".

Here's the Challenge:
Get out your chippy stash and figure out a way to use your chipboard
to make something other than what it was originally intended for.
In my example below, I used a tin full of Maya Road Chipboard Scrolls
to create the tree. I cut some of the swirly parts off to make the trunk

and then used several of the scrolls to create the leaves.
I did not use them just as scrolls.
In other words, don't use a heart as a heart or a star as a star.

You have to get creative an see what other stuff is hiding

in your chipboard shapes.

Becky used a scalloped chipboard as a sun:

These next two layouts were done as a remembrance
for the scrapbooking community's dear friend,
Aleida Franklin. She will be truly missed.

Jen used circles, exclamation points and quotes to make the Butterflies for this layout:

Challenge #8 with Layle!

The technique is to stamp raw chipboard to create a custom pattern.
I have a ton of raw chipboard and I've found that I rarely use it because it requires getting the paint out, letting it dry, cleaning brushes, etc. Using stamps is an easy way to spice up chipboard in about half the time that painting takes. I used Scenic Route Berkely chipboard letters and our Raw Star Shapes and Rhonna's Swirls Acrylic Stamps by Autumn Leaves. I like to use Stayz On Black Ink when I stamp on chipboard because it coats evenly while still maintaing a nice crisp look to the stamped image.
Since I used a piece of paper from our Loveland collection, for the RAK I'll do one of our Loveland Product Kits and some raw chipboard.

Alicia used a foil pen to color her stars and then stamped clear swirls to give them a little extra kick.

Deb painted, and then stamped hers, and also used some embossing powder to give texture

Jen painted and stamped as well, simple and beautiful.

Becky stamped on the raw chipboard.

Teresa has come up with a simple but very fun challenge!

Technique: Glitter up your Chipboard
Theme: Grateful For...

Project technique:

I was excited to be invited to do a project for the Method Playground blog. I love to incorporate simple, but stunning techniques into my projects. I absolutely love glass glitter and how it shines. I wanted to do a challenge with a "GRATEFUL for..." theme since it is almost Thanksgiving. It gave me the idea to cover the number 4 with the silver glass glitter.

I used a raw chipboard number 4 and adhered Elmer's glue to the surface.

I applied the glass glitter over the glue and allowed it to dry.

It is simple and easy to create your own glittered chipboard!!!!

If you would like to seal the glitter (so that it will not shake off), apply a even layer of Glossy Accents by Ranger to the chipboard. Allow several hours for the liquid adhesive to dry. Project theme:

I decided to do a layout about something that I am grateful for.

There are so many things that I could do...but what kept coming foremost in my mind is my teenage daughter Taylor. My husband and I recently went on vacation this past month, and while we were away Taylor was involved in a terrible car accident. Her car was totaled and since we were on a cruise, she could not contact us. When I found out about the accident, I was devastated. I was overcome with gratitude and felt blessed that she was not hurt. All I could do was say prayers of thankfulness for her. So I wanted to document, just how grateful and thankful that I am.

Alicia used the inspiration to start a great family tradition! What a beautiful album! Don't you love the chipboard dates! Becky used Tattered Angels glimmer mist in peach on the Maya Road chipboard and then accented with Art Glitter in Aztec Gold.
